Over the past 35+ years, we’ve seen thousands of people’s dream weddings brought to fruition. From colour pallets, to venues to floral arrangements - when it comes to planning your big day, the possibilities really are endless! Although the plethora of options creates a huge variety of choices, it can also be overwhelming trying to plan the perfect day. Along with the pressure to make the day ‘just right’, months and months of planning can lead to some serious decision fatigue, taking a lot of the fun out of what planning your wedding should be.
As stressful as planning a wedding can become, do your best to remember that this is YOUR day! It should serve you in being a fun and memorable celebration with all your closest family and friends. We love seeing couples who are truly enjoying their entire wedding celebration - no matter what little things don’t go according to plan - and making the most of the day that many couples have looked forward to all their lives.
Start a Wedding Fund
It’s no secret that weddings can be very pricey. From the rings to the venue - all the details and vendors at your wedding add up quickly. According to Canada Buzz, the average cost of a modest, 150 guest wedding in Canada is $28,000 CAD (and that doesn’t even include the honeymoon!). There are always ways to cut corners and save, but if you have a specific dream wedding set in your head with specific details and vendors that you want to bring to life, it’s best to start saving early. It’s never too early to start a wedding fund for you and your partner to make sure that you have enough to cover all of your wedding expenses.
Creating a budget spreadsheet before you get started with hiring anyone is also a great tool for staying on track. Be conscientious about what you have to spend on your wedding and what the most important elements of the day are for you and your partner. This will help you to properly allocate the money you’ve saved to the parts of the wedding experience that will truly bring you the most joy and help make the day everything you’ve ever dreamed of.
Get Inspired!
Whether you’re browsing google to find some wedding dress inspiration, scrolling through pinterest to pick out the best colour pallet for your decor, or even flipping through some wedding magazines in order to strike inspiration on floral arrangements - inspiration for your wedding can be found anywhere!
Organizing your ideas will not only help you to better visualize what you’re looking for, but it will also help your planner/ vendors to understand your vision and help bring it to life! Try making a vision or mood board with the elements and colours you want to incorporate into your day, and making a list of ‘must haves’ for your event. Choosing a ‘theme’ for your wedding is also a great way to design your day around a specific aesthetic.
Hire a planner
The role of a wedding planner really can’t be understated when it comes to everything running smoothly on your wedding day. If you can afford to hire a planner - do it! Not only will working with a planner make the day of your wedding less stressful, but it will also make a huge difference in the planning process. As a professional in the industry, wedding planners are always in the know about little details you might easily miss and can also recommend vendors to you that they’ve worked with in the past and trust. Working with a planner helps you to stay involved in the process in creating the day you've always dreamed of while having a professional take care of the details.
Save the Date!
Start by choosing a few potential dates for your wedding. Staying a little flexible in your date selection will help you to book the venue and vendors you want.
Keep in mind a few other important factors too:
The popularity of the season/ dates you’ve chosen
Price differences of venues and vendors between seasons and days of the week
The time of year/ season and how it ties into the tone & theme of your day
Capture the Day
Ask any married couple, and they’ll tell you that your wedding day just flies by! Capturing your special day is something you do not want to skip out on. Video is the best way to preserve the memories of your day. As we’ve said before, if a picture is worth a thousand words, imagine how many a video is worth! Having a keepsake wedding film that tells your love story is something you will cherish forever. Another key factor that adds to the value of video is SOUND. You don’t just watch a wedding, you hear it. Sound is absolutely a key factor in recalling memories and fully capturing the moment. Videographers are nearly always the only ones professionally recording your ceremony, vows, speeches, letters and other great moments throughout your wedding day that you will never hear again. After all that planning and prepping, your wedding goes by faster than you think. Relive the experience again through video!
Watch (and listen!) to our films, and hear how important sound is to the full experience. There’s a reason we base the narrative of our retrospective films around sound first before adding in visuals; sound tells a story that visuals alone simply can not.
Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but if you’re organized and stick to a plan & budget, you really can have the wedding of your dreams! Most importantly, be present on your day and feel the love—you’re getting married! Don't worry about the little things that don’t go to plan. By the time your wedding day rolls around, do your best to just relax and enjoy all of the special moments with all the people you love most.
